Hey there! I'm Jana...

baker, cupcake froster, cake decorator, dishwasher and everything in between. To sum it up — I'm Sweetheart. Kind of a one woman show, which is perfect for me since I love being part of everything that happens in my little shoppe. Now truth be told, I really dislike, okay fine, hate, the dishwasher part but I’ve learned to accept it. I guess you have to take the good with the bad, huh?

Sweethearts is my childhood dream turned reality. Be sure to read that quirky little story above. Now, let me give you the low down on the things that make me the girl I am…

  • I'm married to an amazing guy, Aaron, and mama to twin gray kitties, Milo and Molly and a golden retriever puppy, Tucker.
  • I'm a lifer of the area, raised in McConnellstown and moved into Huntingdon shortly after graduating high school. I’m a small-town girl at heart and plan on it always being like that.
  • While in high school, I attended the Culinary Arts program at the Huntingdon County Career and Technology Center. Best. Decision. Ever. For 3 years, half of my school day was spent being in a kitchen baking or cooking which is perfect for someone like me.
  • Other childhood nicknames – Gert, Gertrude and Grace. Family can be so cruel.
  • I am a huge (and I mean HUGE!) homebody. My idea of a good time is spending my evenings and weekends snuggling with Milo, Molly and Tucker or just puttering around the house.
  • Now while I love being at home, I also enjoy an evening spent laughing with family, friends, good food and a bottle, or two, of wine (sweet, please).
  • I have naturally curly hair. Bet you didn’t know that. As my hair is usually in a ponytail for baking, most people don’t ever get to see it.
  • Food is pretty important to me. My day is typically planned around my next meal. Don't laugh. I'm serious!  Once I finish one meal, my thoughts generally go to what I'm going to be having next. I just don’t like to be unprepared when it comes to eating.
  • Hot tea is amazing! I start every day with a cup while feeding my kitties and puppy and have several more cups throughout the day.
  • In case you haven’t figured this out by now, I'm going to let you in on a little secret, dessert is my favorite! And obviously, cupcakes are #1. Whether it's a good ole' classic cupcake, like Vanilla with Vanilla buttercream or Chocolate with Chocolate buttercream, I’m a happy girl. Now if it’s pumpkin season then it’s a different story and I’ll take a Pumpkin Spice cupcake with Cream Cheese buttercream any day of the week.
  • Wanna know another secret? I prefer my cupcakes with only a smidge of frosting. Seriously. It’s been like that since I was just a little girl. Weird, huh?
  • Blueberry pie (my Aunt Alice’s) and brownies, especially the corner ones, are my second favorite desserts. Obviously, second to cupcakes.
  • Any day can be made better with just one bite of an Asher's Sea Salt Caramel or Milk Chocolate Potato Chip Cluster. If you haven’t tried these yet, then you need to get on in here and get yourself some!
  • Fuzzy socks and blankets. Do I need to say more?! I may have a problem. You be the judge. I have no less than 20 pairs of fuzzy socks and our living room has no less than 5 fuzzy blankets. And if you think about it that’s kind of overkill for a house that has 2 people living in it.
  • Being in the kitchen is very calming and relaxing to me. Again, except for the dishwashing thing.
  • I read cookbooks like most people would a storybook. Gooseberry Patch Cookbooks are my favorite. They are full of good ole’ home cookin’ recipes and nifty little tips and craft ideas. It’s like getting several books in one.
  • I don’t wear aprons, which explains why I always have frosting on my shirt. While they serve a great purpose, I’m not the most graceful person (hence the childhood nickname, Grace) and I constantly get the strings caught on doorknobs and such. So, for me, they just end up being a hazard.

Well there ya’ go. Now you know a little about me and my favorites in life.
